.
1. How Are We Doing? Readiness For Business
Partnering
This tool is about the current function and its
‘readiness’ for business partnering. It can either be
used as a questionnaire or a ‘card sort’ in a group
exercise. For each of the questions you decide whether the answer
is ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘partly’,
allowing you to then map your function’s current progress
towards business partnering and plan the next key steps on the journey.
2. Mapping Your Current Role
This simple tool reviews the current activity
of professionals against key activities within a business partnering
approach. The personal profile you create shows the extent to which
you currently operate as a ‘Strategic Business Partner’,
‘Consultant’, ‘Specialist/Expert’ and ‘Provider
of Operational Support’. By mapping current activity and roles,
it allows individuals to take a step back and determine what they
will need to do more of, and less of, going forward. It can also
be used to help develop job descriptions by recognising the overlaps
and differences between roles.
3. Business Partner Competencies
As part of our extensive experience and research
into business partnering we have developed a suite of competencies
for Business Partners. Under the headings of ‘Relationship
Manager’, ‘Shaper’, ‘Leader’, ‘Consultant’
and ‘Expert’, the competencies identify development
needs and ensure the expectations of the role, skills and behaviours
are clear and understood. Our development programmes and Partnering
Academy solutions directly link to supporting the business partner
competencies.
