Consultancy and training are delivered by a team of highly qualified and experienced consultants led by develop uk directors, Judith Strange and Shirley Dalziel. Our knowledge and experience of Business Partnering comes from:

Judith Strange Judith Strange - Director
Judith has extensive senior corporate experience in HR, Development and OD. She has run large-scale strategic change projects in-house, as a consultant and as an interim Learning and Development Director at Energis and Head of Operational Training at BskyB. She has extensive knowledge of the Financial Sector having worked for Friends Provident, Scottish Amicable and Prudential. At Prudential she was one of the original HR Business Partner team when they implemented a Business Partner model in 2000.

Starting off in Sales and having had a period in Corporate Projects – Judith brings a highly commercial focus to partnering and is passionate about developing HR teams to increase their credibility with the business areas and be a truly influential Business Partner.

Judith has been involved in HR Business Partnering for over 10 years and many organisations have found her insights and support invaluable when implementing Partnering, reviewing their HR strategy and developing their Partnering teams.

She has spearheaded develop uk's work in developing Partners' influencing ability, bringing in key skills from her sales background.

Shirley Dalziel Shirley Dalziel - Director
Shirley has over 25 years of experience in helping individuals and organisations to evolve, and has worked for a wide range of companies ranging from small to multinational, across most business sectors Over the past few years she has focussed on strategic HR and working with organisations to implement and develop HR Partnering.

Shirley is an expert in strategic HR and has extensively researched Partnering and how HR models work in practice. As a result she has produced leading edge approaches to developing HR teams. She has pioneered our development programmes that provide the very specific skills required to enable partners to operate at a more strategic level.

She is an MBA, a member of the CIPD and a Chartered Business Psychologist and combines her knowledge of both business and individual development in her Partnering work.

She is in demand as a speaker and has presented on Partnering at conferences both in the UK and Internationally. Her overseas consultancy work has taken her to Australia, India, Bangladesh, USA, Malawi and Saudi Arabia.

Both Shirley and Judith have published widely in HR in the UK and overseas. They also wrote the CIPD HR Business Partnering Toolkit.

Annette Perry Annette Perry
Annette has more than 10 years of experience as a Senior HR Business Partner, primarily in the financial services sector. During that time she has worked in partnership with a range of business units including IT, Sales and Corporate Development to design and deliver the HR elements of business strategy.

In addition to the operational management of performance, reward, development and talent frameworks, Annette has worked in project teams with business managers to deliver significant organisational change in response to customer, cost or wider business challenges. Examples have included the launch of a health insurance company in response to a new market opportunity, the establishment of an overseas customer services centre that met cost and quality needs and the sale of a European subsidiary following a change in global strategy. The key challenges in all instances included ensuring that HR strategy was directly aligned with commercial needs, stakeholder management within both the business and HR, employee communications and organisational design.

Annette is enthusiastic about the HR Business Partner role having been through the transition to this model herself and more recently, having worked operationally with HR teams to support and facilitate their own transition.

Gwynneth Rees-Kenny Gwynneth Rees-Kenny
Gwynneth has over 20 years HR experience working both with management and leadership teams and individuals. Until recently Head of Leadership, Talent and People Change with a leading financial services provider, she brings significant organisational development / learning and development experience gained in a range of management and consultancy roles founded on a sound generalist HR management background. Leveraging this experience has allowed her to partner successfully with HR Business Partners and HR professionals over a number of years on topics such as talent management and development, performance management systems, and organisational capability, for example, while working from within a specialist HR function.

Gwynneth has worked across a variety of different sectors – private and public, manufacturing, retail and manufacturing – and internationally in the USA and Holland.

She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, and a Certified Professional Coactive Coach, and Coach Supervisor.

Martin Carver Martin Carver
Martin started his career in Finance before moving into HR and focusing on Training and Leadership development. As an HR Consultant he has worked in the UK, Asia and South Africa and is currently working in talent management, executive coaching and in delivering highly successful consultancy and stakeholder relationship workshops for professional services within blue chip companies. He is passionate about supporting individuals and teams to maximise their potential and create personal impact and fulfilment.

Greg Hunt Greg Hunt
Greg spent 25 years working in Ford, Grand Met, Guinness and Diageo. This followed his first degree at Durham University and Post Graduate study at the London School of Economics.

He played leading roles in major Organisation Changes. The most significant of these were the Merger of Grand Met and Guinness, the Acquisition of Seagram, the Integration of Guinness and UDV and an organisation development strategy to redesign the operating model of the business. Core components of that work were: Business and HR strategy development, Business and HR Operating model redesign, Senior Team development, International Executive Selection, Recruitment & Talent Development and Partnership Development with Trades Unions.

Since leaving Diageo at the end of 2003, Greg has worked with a number of major companies in their strategic change and development work. Clients have included several Major UK and International Businesses from the FTSE Top 100.
Greg’s work has included: Creation of Business and HR Strategy and follow-through imperatives, Creation of Organisation Capabilities, Leadership Development, Senior Team Development, Organisation Redesign for Global Functional Organisation and the creation of Shared Services and Business Partnering HR Organisation Models.

Mike Walters Mike Walters
Mike is an authority on Human Resource strategy and processes, with specific experience in developing HR structures and practices to support current and emerging business strategy. Mike has some 15 years’ consultancy experience and has led major consultancy assignments for clients as diverse as Royal Mail, Eurostar, the European Space Agency, the Northern Ireland Assembly, Kellogg’s, the European Patent Office, the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds, Orange, the Scottish Parliament, Prudential, English Nature, UK National Savings & Investments, the UK Department of Social Security, the UK Inland Revenue, Scottish Water, Heinz, SCA, Exxon, Scottish Power and United Biscuits. He has also led research and benchmarking projects for organisations such as the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the UK Home Office, the UK Office of Manpower Economics, Scottish Enterprise, and the UK Department for Education and Skills.
Mike's past career includes HR roles with Shell, Co-op Bank and the BBC, and the role of Development Manager with the CIPD specialising in organisational and HR strategy issues. His previous consulting experience includes a period in Ernst & Young (where he participated in the management buy-out of its HR practice), PA Consulting and in specialist HR consulting practices.
Mike is a regular speaker on the national and international conference circuit, and is the author of numerous management books, including Changing Culture, Building the Responsive Organisation, Attitude and Opinion Surveys, The Performance Management Handbook, Effective Change, From Absence to Attendance., and Absence: A One Stop Guide. Mike co-authored with Shirley and Judith the CIPD ‘HR as a Business Partner toolkit’. He has also published a major research reports for the CIPD on culture change in the public sector and in multi-national organisations.

Ann Astell

Ann Astell
Ann is a chartered psychologist with over 25 years experience as a consultant in the fields of people and organisation development. Her strengths are in strategy, needs diagnosis, client relationship management as a consultant with extensive experience of all dimensions of bringing psychology to organisational thinking and people performance. Alongside two degrees in Psychology, she is an associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
Much of her experience has been with public sector organisations, in health, international development and government. Her knowledge of what underpins skills and their development gives her particular depth in supporting partnership development. She has worked as a civil servant before becoming a consultant and has worked on a number of policy initiatives, getting them into the public arena in ways that work in a sustainable manner.
Her current clients include the Commonwealth, the Scottish Government and oil companies. She has worked on four continents across many cultures to promote the growth of effective working in and across organisations.

Alison Morley
Alison has a wide range of experience both inside and outside of HR – as a senior HR Business Partner, head of learning development, operational line manager and project manager. She brings a proven track record of business transformation, change management, coaching and development.

Having experienced a wide range of roles in a FSTE 100 Alison has brought her combined business, development, delivery and HR experience to develop uk, where she is working on enabling organisations and individuals to successfully transform their professional functions.

Her particular strengths are in developing teams to effectively manage projects, business consultancy and engaging line managers. She also works on structural and effectiveness reviews.

Robin Field Robin Field
Robin is a highly experienced HR and development professional with a wide range of experience in blue chip, financial services and investment banks, working in the UK and Internationally. His last role was as a learning partner with Barclays Wealth where he was responsible for Leadership and Learning and Development interventions for the private bank. Robin has worked in HR Partnering models in a variety of organisation and roles and brings practical experience and insight into how HR can effectively engage with the business and drive performance. An engaging presenter and facilitator Robin brings a commercial focus to partnering and the development of the consultancy skills required to be an effective HR Business Partner.

Dale Cox
Dale has more than 10 years experience at Board and Senior Management level as an HR Director, Dale has developed, led and managed complex organisational and HR change programmes in both private and public sectors. These include project and programme management, strategy development, outsourcing to India, shared services, restructuring, mergers, acquisitions and disposals. Dale has managed HR teams of 80 staff with international experience in Europe, USA and Asia-Pacific. Sample projects include: Leading the transformation of HR at SSAT a charity with a £100m turnover, repositioning HR to a strategic, commercially focused function and acting as a coach and mentor to the Acting Head of HR; Interim Programme Director for HR Transformation at the Home Office, scoping and developing the blueprint for the implementation of a 3year HR change programme; Interim Head of Strategic Business Change at the DTI (now BERR) building a new corporate People Strategy and managing the integration of 4 key projects – HR Intranet , Oracle HRMS, HR policy refresh and restructure of HR

Dale is a leading figure in public sector HR transformation and has contributed to and been featured in many articles.

Mary McCrea
Mary is an experienced former Head of Human Resources and Head of Strategy and Talent Management for a FTSE 100 Company. She applies her HR knowledge and skills pragmatically to help organisations move towards high performance cultures. She has considerable experience in talent and performance management, high potential development, managing change, organisational development, mergers and acquisitions and learning and development.

Mary introduced HR business partnering in a financial services company which included becoming business partner to the Finance and Customer Services functions, gaining vital first hand experience of this role. In addition she supported IT and Finance business partners in embedding their roles.

For 10 years Mary was Chair of the HR Directors Group for a European Alliance of 14 financial services companies and a key member of the Programme Advisory Group for their extremely successful high potential and senior management programmes. Coupled with her recent experience of due diligence exercises in Asia she has gained a valuable international perspective.

Mary works for develop uk in helping clients introduce Business Partnering and also in developing their skill set. Her recent clients include: Lloyds Register, Alstom, Pearl Group, Bristol City Council and the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Gill Gray

Gill Gray
Gill is a senior HR Development professional with over 15 years experience in HR and people development gained in a wide range of industry sectors and organisations.

Prior to working with develop uk, Gill worked with SunMicrosystems in a number of different roles including HR Manager and Training and Development Manager. Skilled in leadership and management development, change and business management, she has designed, developed and delivered numerous programs in the UK and Europe in the areas of Leadership development, management skills, performance management, talent development, career management and change management. A skilled facilitator, Gill has worked extensively with business teams and managers to improve organisational effectiveness. As the manager of Sun Microsystems' corporate university in Scotland Gill ran a highly successful training and consultancy business.

Jan Brause

Jan Brause
Jan is a performance development consultant, professional coach and coach supervisor with many years successful experience of enabling personal growth and performance improvement through a passionate focus on the individual in an organisational context.

With her experience of senior level individual and organisational development, both in the UK and overseas, Jan brings a valuable perspective into her work. As a consultant and facilitator Jan believes in working flexibly and collaboratively in an environment of trust, challenge and support. As a coach Jan helps people to view their personal and professional issues in a new light and to develop sustainable strategies for their own performance improvement.

Her qualification include a First Class Honours Degree in Psychology; she is accredited with the Association for Coaching in the UK, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and the Professional Speakers Association.

Heidi Edgar
Heidi has operated as a Senior Business Partner and Head of Employment Relations within financial sector organisations. She uses her creative and inspirational approach to develop HR departments and professionals. She ensures HR delivers quantifiable results to the bottom line through a pragmatic and results orientated approach; for example, £1million savings from a holistic health and well-being programme.

Elaine Bradley Elaine Bradley
Elaine’s experience in training and education reflects her passion for enabling individuals and teams to realise their potential. As a consultant she has delivered leadership and talent programmes to a wide variety of organisations and provided feedback in assessment and development centres. As a university lecturer, she delivered degree courses in both business management and psychology.
She has pioneered techniques within leadership development using Brazillian Percussion to combine the exceptional learning power of music with organisational psychology.

Recent clients incluce HBOS, CIPD, Scottish Leadership Foundation, Intratil Airports, Shell, NHS Centre for Innovation and Change, Prudential and BP.

Elaine holds an MPhil in Psychology, a BA (Hons) in Commerce, is an examiner for the ACCA and is also a Certified Practioner of NLP.

Kate Donne Kate Donne
Kate has over 20 years experience in the training industry. She has worked in a broad spectrum of industry sectors including tourism, education, aerospace, health and retail.

Although she designs and delivers many different soft skill programs, her passion lies in the field of Presentation Skills where she combines her performance experience with her business knowledge. Kate’s principal training objective is to provide delegates with the professional tools required to develop potential, enhance overall performance and add value to the business. She is well known for her energetic, interactive training style and is highly skilled in her field.

Jonathan Lewis Jonathan Lewis
Jonathan has had considerable experience over the last ten years delivering Personal Impact skills training, as well as Team Building and Leadership Development to the corporate world - from immersive role play and improvisation to facilitation, coaching business leaders, and creativity masterclasses which is what he specialises in now.

He has a degree from Exeter University and is a graduate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has worked extensively as an actor, writer and director for twenty years, and more recent theatre work includes playing opposite Rob Lowe in ‘A Few Good Men’ at The Haymarket Theatre in London’s West End, and on the television, he is best remembered for his roles in ‘London’s Burning’, ‘Soldier, Soldier’ and ‘Coronation St.’ He is an award winning playwright and has directed in theatres all over the UK.
