Tools and Resources

develop uk has a proven track record in researching business partnering, writing articles and developing practical toolkits.
We have a range of bespoke IT business partnering tools designed to support organisations and individuals successfully implement partnering and develop in the role of the IT Business Partner.
If you in interested in any of the tools described below, email Judith.strange@develop.uk.com

.
1. How Are We Doing? Readiness For IT Business Partnering

This tool is about the current IT function and its ‘readiness’ for IT business partnering. It can either be used as a questionnaire or a ‘card sort’ in a group exercise. For each of the questions you decide whether the answer is ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘partly’ and then you can map your function’s current progress towards business partnering and the next key steps on the journey.

2. Mapping Your Current Role

This simple tool reviews the current activity of IT Professionals against key activities within a business partnering approach. The personal profile you create shows to what extent you currently operate as a ‘Strategic Business Partner’, ‘Consultant’, ‘Specialist/Expert’ and ‘Provider of Operational IT Support’. By mapping current activity and roles, it allows individuals to take a step back and determine what they will need to do more of and less of, going forward. It can also be used to help develop job descriptions by recognising the overlaps and differences between roles.

3. IT Business Partner Competencies

As part of our extensive experience and research in working with and developing Business Partners, we have developed a suite of competencies which include those for an IT Business Partner. Under the headings of ‘Relationship Manager’, ‘Shaper’, ‘Leader’, ‘Consultant’ and ‘Expert’, the competencies identify development needs and ensure the expectations of the role, skills and behaviours are clear and understood. Our development programmes and IT Academy solutions directly link to supporting the IT Business Partner competencies.
